40 Days of Prayer Triplets
Sunday April 11th - Friday May 21st, 2021

What is a Prayer Triplet?

A prayer triplet is a group of three people who commit to praying together. A triplet consists of three individuals (of the same gender, and preferably of different age groups, level of involvement in church, etc. and not already close friends or family members) who meet to spend time praying for each other, for the church and for our community.

What is the expected commitment?

  • Our Prayer Triplets would plan to meet four times over a period of 40 days. Having the “four times over 40 days” timeframe gives people a sense that this is not a lifelong long-term commitment if they don’t want it to be.

  • The groups will start on April 11th, 2021 and run until Friday May 21st, 2021.

  • Triplets may continue to meet beyond this, if they wish. Any group who decides to continue meeting, should let Shannon know so we can keep a record.

Why do this at Immanuel?

  • Prayer works! God is faithful in answering the prayers of his people. We must become a praying church if we want to be a growing, effective church. Prayer triplets will significant increase the number of “prayer meetings.” God may stir up new ideas among us for his Kingdom - prayer can spark revival!

  • Fostering love for one another. Our vision is to be a “Jesus-centred community learning to love God, one another, and the world around us.” Loving one another as brothers and sisters in Christ doesn’t happen by accident. We learn to love one another as we get to know each other, spending time together and sharing openly. It is common for people in a church to keep their interaction at a shallow level which doesn’t produce close and mature fellowship.

  • Small has benefits. Developing prayer triplets recognizes the busyness of modern life that can make multiple, centralized church-wide meetings difficult for everyone to attend. Therefore having the flexibility of finding time when just three people can meet is much easier, and allows for a level of intimacy and vulnerability that many would find difficult to express with a larger group.

  • Stretching outside comfort zone. For example, some people will learn how to pray out loud with others for the first time.

  • New diverse friendships. Provides a platform for new interpersonal relationships to develop, with people of diverse views, cultural perspectives, generational differences, to connect and empathize with one another. Titus 2:1-5 encourages the older generation to disciple the younger generation.

  • COVID-safe. Many are still cautious about meeting in large groups. A group of only three people is well within COVID guidelines for safety. If group members wish to socially distance and/or wear masks for their meetings, this is easily doable in most average sized living rooms or church meeting spaces. This should encourage participation among the hesitant.

Why a triplet?

Meeting in couples lacks the accountability that a third person offers the group. It is easy to end up simply chatting or never meeting up when there is only two people, but a third gives strength. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says: “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken”

What do the the groups do when they meet?

A simple 60-minute format might look like:
5 minutes - Greeting / social time
10 minutes - Time of praising God in prayer
15 minutes - Discuss personal prayer requests
15 minutes - Pray for each other and other requests
15 minutes - Pray for the Church and community.
Before concluding, plan where and when to meet next.

How will they work?

  • Complete an online form indicating your desire to participate. Those who do not use computers will be contacted by telephone to invite participation.

  • Deadline to sign up is Easter Sunday April 4th.

  • The form gives people the option of whether they would like to meet in-person, online, or either.

  • Pastor Michael will gather all the names, and with two others, pray over the list and match people up together in groups under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

  • We would like to see at least 75 people participate. (This is roughly 1/3rd of our congregation).

  • Those who’ve requested to meet online only will be grouped together with others who wish to meet online as well. Otherwise, the preference is for prayer triplets to meet in person.

  • Once the groups are formed, one key leader from each group will be contacted to make contact with the other two members and get the ball rolling.

  • Groups can choose to meet in a home, at the church, or just about anywhere that they can have privacy.

  • On Sunday May 16th, we will plan a time in the morning service of sharing testimonies and stories of how God is at working and speaking through the prayer triplets, and potentially encourage groups to continue meeting if they’ve been helpful.

If you’d like to participate, but any part of what’s proposed here prevents you from participating (such as being partnered with strangers), please contact Pastor Michael. We don’t want a little detail of the plan to prevent you from taking part. We’re flexible!
