COVID-19 Church Reopening Survey

Preamble: At present, the plans are to continue with pre-recorded services on the Internet (via YouTube, Facebook and our website) for the foreseeable future. At some point after Pastor Michael returns from vacation (end of July) we will begin to transition to a ‘hybrid’ online service containing some live and some pre-recorded elements. This will allow us to “practice” before eventually going to a fully live online service.

We feel that gathering in homes in HOUSE CHURCH gatherings of 10 or less for “Viewing Parties” or “Afterparties” is a safe and effective way to foster a sense of Christian community and fellowship during the COVID-19 outbreak (and beyond). A Viewing Party involves watching the service together, discussing the sermon with provided discussion questions, praying for one another, eating together, and building friendship. An Afterparty is the same but all attendees have already watched the service before coming together.

Drive-In or outdoor services allow for large church worship gatherings.

Even though Nova Scotia is doing well, we must remain vigilant. We will be back in our building on Sunday mornings eventually, but it is hard to set a date. In addition, we have accepted the following advice from the leadership of Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada: “Stay one step behind the government and our neighbourhoods. We want to be fully honouring and respectful of authority … Please do not act hastily and become the centre of a new outbreak. Consider waiting a period of time after it becomes permitted to gather in person again. Consider setting even tighter restrictions on physical distancing and hygiene.” (https://baptist-atlantic.ca/reopening-guidance/ ).

The current recommendations from the Nova Scotia government for hosting events, including “faith-based gatherings” can be found here: https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/docs/Events-theatres-and-venues-COVID-19-prevention-guidelines.pdf

We appreciate you taking the time to complete this survey. The information and feedback we receive will help the Pastoral Staff, Deacons, and Leadership Team decide when and how to safely re-open our building and make other strategic decisions.
